Special Volunteer Wayne Pacelle of HSUS Builds a Fence with FFF
December 27, 2011 - 1:14pm by Lorna
Fences For Fido was thrilled to host a very special guest volunteer at our Christmas Eve fence build for Chico, Cheetho, and Lady in N.E. Portland: Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, our nation's largest animal protection organization. He worked hard with 30 local volunteers and stayed to witness the sweet release of 3 dogs into their newly fenced yard. In this video, we are proud and honored that he discusses his morning spent with Fences For Fido:
Wayne Pacelle Volunteer Experience Interview
Volunteers made beds, repaired portions of the existing fence, installed a new fence plus 2 gates, attached ground wire all the way around a very big yard, and assembled 3 dog houses, all in one beautiful winter morning filled with energy, teamwork, fun, and freedom. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to all the incredible volunteers who came out on Christmas Eve morning to improve the lives of 3 wonderful dogs--our volunteers always fill us with gratitude for all they do. We could tell by the high spirits of Chico, Cheetho, Lady, and their family that they all loved their special Christmas gift from Fences For Fido. The dogs had previously lived chained to a tree next to a very busy, noisy road. Their new fence provides them a very spacious yard that is safe and quieter so they can now play and relax together.
Much appreciation goes to our Client Outreach Coordinator Melinda and Crew Leader Steve for leading this very industrious fence building team. They both organized this build on an accelerated schedule due to the urgency of the dogs' situation.
Special note: Lady was hit by a car when she was young, causing her leg to be permanently damaged. Thanks to Fences For Fido supporters, she will be spayed and have her leg amputated which will make her much more comfortable and happier.
Beautiful Video of Our Christmas Eve Morning

We received this sincere note of appreciation from Nicole and Bonnie, the family of these 3 wonderful dogs. That is the magic of Fences For Fido, we change the families' lives as well.
