Please note: The website and the volunteer signups are separate accounts. Your volunteer account will not work for website account and vice-versa. We recommend you use same loginID and password for both to make it easier. Having a website account allows you access to community forums, such as Rideshare/Carpool but is not necessary to use volunteer signup page where events are listed. Sorry for any confusion this new system causes!

Please join us as we unchain dogs in our communities! Fences For Fido is a 100% volunteer group that is powered by wonderful people who donate their time, energy, expertise, skills and goodwill to improve the lives of dogs living outdoors on chains or tethers. In one morning you can help build a fence and experience the joy of knowing your efforts made it possible to change a dog’s life forever. Plus have fun with other dog lovers while doing it!
Everyone has something to offer! Not good with a hammer? Don't like to use power tools? No worries, there's still plenty to do and we need you!
At each fence build we have veteran volunteers who will help guide and train new volunteers, so even if you have never built a fence before or worked with tools, you are always welcome! We are building approximately 6 fences per month all over the northern half of Oregon and southwest Washington. You can join an event near you, or find one further away and maybe sign up for a carpool on our new ridesharing forum!
Besides fence building, we also have so many important behind-the-scenes jobs available that we often need help with, so please contact us if you'd be interested in any of the opportunities listed below and let us know which geographic region you are in, as we do not normally post these tasks on our volunteer sign-up page.
Additional volunteer opportunities include:
Plus we always need dedicated volunteers to help place the posts a few days before the actual fence build. We hope you will consider helping on this very important first step of freeing a dog from a chain. The special added bonus of this task is that you will get to meet the special dog before everyone else!
Please note that we have a minimum age limit of 18+. Our build sites are construction zones so we cannot make exceptions to this and cannot have minors at builds even as spectators.
To get started:
We look forward to having you join the Fences For Fido volunteer team!
Special Note For Groups:
We LOVE partnering with other organizations; however, we request that you do not sign up groups through our online volunteer sign-up system. Groups should contact our Volunteer Coordinator so that we can coordinate a special group event with a fence crew chief. In addition, we do require a $900 sponsorship donation from a group to have a special build designated for your organization. The donation includes all fence materials, the dog house, and veterinary care (typically spay or neuter costs) for the particular dog and fence build project. Thank you for your understanding and interest in participating in a day that truly changes lives for everyone.

Private donations empower us. In our first year as an organization, we got right to business and un-chained more than 75 dogs—many living in isolated, desperate condition. Within two years, we had unchained nearly 200 dogs. Already entering our third year, we have now freed 235 dogs as we continue to build 7-8 fences every month.
Your gift, regardless of amount, means everything to a chained dog. You are their hope, and the wind at our backs.

During our first year of operation (June 2009 through May 2010), we allocated more than 86% percent of our expenditures directly towards fence building materials , doghouse supplies, and veterinary care. Maintaining this standard is essential to our effectiveness.
We also have a continual need for the following materials to help the dogs we build fences for:
If you are able to donate any of the above listed materials, please contact us at info@fencesforfido.org, we really appreciate any materials donations!
