 Cash Attends Portland Pet Expo!

Cash in the Fences For Fido Booth at Portland Pet Expo - October 6, 2012

Here's our big happy boy Cash at Pet Expo where he loved all the attention he received!  He proudly came to the party with his foster parents but sure did like meeting lots of new friends, both human and canine.  He was calm and confident as he walked around taking it all in with a big smile on his face and endless tail wagging, and some lucky admirers even got a big silly kiss on their face!

Even though Cash liked all the festivities, one of his favorite things about attending was receiving more of his favorite specialty Fido toys that he gleefully accepted and then entertained us with his funny antics.

Cash says "Oooh, I really want that toy, I want to play!"

Cash has been living with his amazing foster mom and dad for several months, and even though he adores them and they love him, foster families know their home is not permanent as they train, love and guide their foster pup into their new life, then they do it all again for another homeless dog.  With this unconditional love, Cash has thrived in his foster home where he feels secure, gets enough quality food to eat, has plenty of play time and exercise every day, training to help him focus his energy and be a good boy, and most of all receives the love he so obviously craves.  He wants to be someone's special guy forever, and he is ready!

Cash lives with two pursnickety beagles who Cash is happy to let be the boss, and he has a favorite young gal pal named "Boo" who he gets playdates with whenever foster mom can arrange it!  We think Cash will be fine around dog-savvy cats as he learns what felines are all about.  Cash is neutered, has received a veterinary exam along with all his vaccinations, and best of all since he lives with a master dog trainer, he is learning good obedience skills!  And when he's in the house, he is very well behaved and easygoing, happy to lay on his bed to take a much needed nap to prepare for more playing.  He's a typical energetic young dog but knows when to relax too.

Cash is a 3-year old fun-loving dog who was down on his luck earlier this year, but we are hoping and wishing that a special person in our Fences For Fido community can give this boy a home where he will feel safe and secure, to help him be a carefree dog who is cherished and loved unconditionally.

Our big guy Cash is a black Labrador retriever mix.  His troubles started a couple years ago when neighbors of his rural property complained that he was harassing their farm animals when he was left to his own devices.  So at the age of 2, Cash found himself chained to his family's back patio to keep him from leaving his property--that's when FFF got involved to build him a fence and beautiful large yard for him to enjoy.  Sadly his fate changed again when his family moved out of state and surrendered Cash to FFF.

Please watch a wonderful video of Cash's exuberant release on his fence build day last year.  Cash Loves His New Yard and A Game of Fetch:  Facebook Video or YouTube Video

Some of Cash's favorite things are as many games of fetch as he can get, playing with hoses squirting water, and expending his boundless capacity for fun and games.  He also adores Kongs filled with peanut butter which keeps him entertained for quite a while every evening.

We have been incredibly fortunate to find him a short-term slot with a master trainer for a behavior evaluation and he has received an excellent report card since his arrival.  We have received much more information about Cash from his trainer who feels Cash is a really good candidate for finding the right home.  He seems to get along good with most dogs but we aren't sure about cats yet, but he wants to please so much and is a quick learner, slow and proper introduction to feline family members will be the course of action as with any new dog-to-cat introductions. He absolutely loves riding in the car and did just dandy at his recent veterinary visits for a health checkup and treating an ear infection.

A FFF volunteer had the pleasure of visiting Cash in his temporary foster home and was excitedly greeted by the big goofball with a giant grin and lots of waggling, and oh boy did he love the big sized treats brought just for him.  When he was done enjoying his snack, he was then given a new rope/tennis ball toy that he gleefully pranced off with, flinging it about and showing evident signs of pleasure at this grand present as he proudly raced around showing it off to everyone.  Even with all his energy, while the volunteer and fosters were in the house talking, Cash calmly lay outside by the back door where he could see in to everyone, but no barking, stress or scratching at the door, he just wanted to be where he could see his friends, waiting for them to come back outside to be with him.  We did our best to catch a video of Cash on his fly-by with his prized new toy, take a peak here at how much joy this dog shows us!

August 15 Update from his foster home:

"Cash loves his Kongs. So far he has lost three of them. We were out tonight with flashlights trying to find the last one so Cash could have his bedtime treat of peanut butter Kong. While we were out looking, Cash was running around and he jumped into the pond! He was so funny. We have never seen him do that before.  Cash and John have a bedtime ritual of playing in the kennel building while John is cleaning up bowls, etc. Cash likes to lie down and chew his Kong. He likes to play indoor fetch also and if you aren't being attentive enough, Cash will come over and toss the Kong at our shins!"

Cash sure would love to have a home who can keep him active and give him a safe outlet for his energy.  We all want Cash to find the love and stability he so desperately craves for another chance to succeed in a home of his own.

Are you the special person to be his forever home, by gently and compassionately guiding him as he continues to learn good manners?  And of course promise to throw a ball or Kong for him as often as possible!  Please contact us if you can love Cash and give him another chance @ This email address is being protected from spambots. Please help Cash find his new place in the world by sharing his story.  He craves love and companionship, he wants to be a big part of his very own family!
