A dog named Snoopy, really!

Snoopy has been chained 24/7 for 9 years. Imagine that, since 2003.

Nola and Smokey

At the end of a cable lead attached to the remains of an old, dilapidated fence sits Nola.

Fences For Fido Mission

mission

Fences For Fido improves the quality of life for dogs living outdoors by building fences free of charge for families who keep their dogs on chains, tethers, and in small enclosures. In addition to the fence, we also provide an insulated doghouse for each dog as well as spay/neuter services and emergency veterinary care when needed.

When a dog is unchained, a transformation begins. It starts with what we call “zoomies:” The running, jumping, exuberant joy our Fidos display once unchained – many for the first time in years. That visible happiness puts smiles on the faces of our volunteers and most importantly, on the faces of our client families who through this process being to connect with their pets in a more meaningful way.

This single moment represents the beginning of an even deeper bond between a dog and his or her family. Since we built our first Fences in 2009, we’ve witnessed more than 2,200 “zoomies!” We’ve expanded to cover Southwest Washington and most areas throughout Oregon, answering the call and building an average of 13 fences per month in every kind of weather.

Additionally, we’ve inspired change on a larger scale: In 2014, Fences For Fido was instrumental in the historic passage of Oregon’s first anti-tethering law, which restricts the amount of time a dog can be chained.

To accelerate the unchaining movement, we actively support and mentor new unchaining groups all over the country. We’re fully committed to this next step in our mission, and have created the Unchained Planet initiative to further this cause.

Thank you for being a part of our effort to change lives... one fence, one family, one dog at a time.

Fences For Fido - Unchained, One Dog At a Time

Thank you so much for trusting Fences For Fido into your homes & lives! This simple act of reaching out to us—asking for a helping hand— truly underscores the love and compassion you have for your canine companions. We hope you know that because of your willingness to make the life of your chained dog a little better, it is a sincere honor to offer a gift that gives back to us just as much as it gives to your entire family.

We truly wish we could help everyone in our community, but since we rely on donations and grants, and all of our fence builders are volunteers, we must use those resources in the most responsible way possible, helping those dogs and families who need it the most. Because of this, we cannot base our approvals on income, disability status, veteran status, or any factors other than the living condition of the dog(s) and how those conditions align with our very specific mission. It truly breaks our hearts to make such difficult decisions, but we recognize that we must be realistic about what we can accomplish in our community.

Because Fences For Fido receives many applications every week (we often have a month-long waiting list), we must prioritize those chained or penned dogs in the most dire of circumstances. That said, we promise to review your application as soon as possible. If you do not hear from us within 30 days, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Thank you for your desire to do better for your four-legged family members. We sincerely look forward to working together—giving you true peace of mind in knowing that your dog has the freedom and security he/she desperately deserves and desires.
